Black and white prints bring the romance of Paris to New Westminster
Andrea Seraphim is a photographer living in North Vancouver, British Columbia with her husband and two teenaged children. She has a B.A. in Psychology and a Law Degree from U.B.C. and has studied Photography at Capilano and Langara Colleges in the Vancouver area. Her black and white photographs of Paris will be at the Orange Room for it's re-opening in February, 2009.
Andrea Seraphim was inspired to concentrate on Street Photography after attending a 10 day photography workshop in Paris with internationally known photojournalist Peter Turnley in 2004, and has returned to Paris several times since.
“Street Photography is so consuming – you’re in a location and you’re just looking and watching for that moment when the light and a gesture or some juxtaposition of elements come together to create a piece of theatre and an emotional connection with the subject. I appreciate the dramatic moments of everyday life and I try to bring that appreciation into my work. I want to tell stories with photographs whether portraits, abstracts, or aspects of nature.”
Seraphim’s black and white photographs are from Tri-X film and custom darkroom printed directly from the negative on archival papers and are professionally framed with archival mattes.
Andrea Seraphim’s photographs are in many private collections and have been shown at Exposure Gallery, The Ferry Building Gallery and Gallery YoYo in the Vancouver area and have been published in Ripe Magazine. Seraphim was awarded a Canadian Association of Photographic Art Certificate of Merit in January 2009 for her image “Contemplation”.
